The NFL has been rocked by another gambling controversy after Arizona Cardinals executive Ryan Gold was suspended indefinitely for breaking the league’s strict gambling rules.
The punishment followed an investigation that discovered Gold had placed bets on football games and shared confidential information linked to the Cardinals’ 2026 NFL Draft strategy.

Gold, who works as Arizona’s director of college scouting, was found to have participated in parlay wagers involving NFL and college football games. However, the league viewed his disclosure of private draft details as an equally serious offence.
The NFL stated that Gold provided non-public information about the Cardinals’ planned draft selections before those picks were officially announced.
The league has not revealed who received the information or whether it directly influenced any betting activity. It also confirmed there was no evidence that any NFL game had been affected or that the integrity of a contest was compromised.
Even so, the NFL considers any misuse of inside information to be a major violation because employees with access to sensitive team decisions can potentially create unfair advantages.

“The NFL’s policies and expectations for all employees are clear, comprehensive, and consistently communicated,” read the team’s statement.
“We fully support the league’s decision in this matter, which involves a single employee. Our focus remains on preparing for the start of training camp next week and the 2026 season.”
Gold now has the option to appeal the suspension, but the NFL’s decision highlights how seriously the league treats gambling violations. The organization has increased its efforts to educate players and staff about betting rules as legal sports gambling continues to expand across the United States.
