Surrey non-profit receives funding to enhance family resource program

A Surrey-based non-profit has received funding for its family resource program to purchase a range of items, including outdoor play equipment.
The Options Community Services weekly drop-in program provides a place for kids aged 0-6 to play and enjoy a snack, and offers guardians or caregivers support and resources related to parenting, child development, early literacy, and the health and safety of young kids.
The funds will also be used for education sessions for parents and to purchase sun shirts and all-weather clothing that will remain on-site and be available to families during outdoor play and parent workshops.
“At the Family Research Programs, we believe children learn best through play,” said Options family resource program manager, Shelby Gordon in a video about the program. “The staff really strive to adapt the program to meet the unique needs of every child and every family. We do believe in a strength-based approach. So we believe that every family comes to us with a strength, and then we work within those strengths and build upon those strengths for each family.”
The program is available in Newton, Cloverdale, Guildford and Whalley, and no pre-registration is required.
Options received funding from Surrey Cares’ Free to Play initiative.
