There’s definitely a summer fair vibe at Taste of Edmonton (Ok, there’s no carnival rides, but like the concurrent KDays, there’s a stage featuring a rotating cast of Canadian performers — Econoline Crush’s first couple of songs showed vocalist Trevor Hurst hasn’t lost a step over three decades).
And when you go to a summer fair, you’re going to want to get yourself a sweet treat to cut through the fried food options.
There are plenty of options.
Deep Fried Mars Bar, The Banquet Premium Dive Bar (Booth 1, 3 tickets)
OK, to be fair, this isn’t going to be a light refresher after throwing back any assortment of fried fare at the foodfest.
But, fried chocolate bar on a stick? It’s not revolutionary, but it’s classic for good reason.
This iteration offers a cereal-coated (corn flakes?) exterior, meaning the confection comes out extra crispy, offering great contrast to the molten innards. It’s teeth-rotting goodness.
Lemon Cafe Bar, The Cheesecake Cafe (Food Truck C, 4 tickets)
Four tickets may seem steep for a dessert, but this is a sizable slice of cheesecake on a stick, straight from the icebox.
The citrus flavour is everywhere, in the cheesecake, in the white chocolate coating, in the drizzle, offering a bit of summer refreshment, even if cheesecake isn’t the lightest option.
This one is full of flavour though, and when you’re balancing multiple options, the stick is everything.

Tres Leches Cake, PiKanté (Booth 15, 2 tickets)
This could be one of the best values at Taste of Edmonton.
It may not look big, but this tres leches cake packs lovely, refreshing flavour in every bite.
The cake — a light sponge soaked in sweetened milk — is not cloying, it’s moist and it’s light on the palate. The fluffy cake is layered with swirls of berry, making this the perfect summer sweet.
