The Brazos County Sheriff’s Office said Rapp was struck after a vehicle allegedly passed two cyclists before stopping and reversing. Authorities allege the driver backed into Rapp, causing fatal injuries.

Police arrested Charles Medina, 31, in connection with the incident. He has been charged with manslaughter and was booked into the Brazos County Detention Center while the investigation continues.

Law enforcement officials have not indicated that Rapp died from a medical condition or boxing-related injuries. Instead, investigators say her death resulted from the injuries she sustained after being struck by the vehicle during the alleged road rage incident.

He added: “We join in the grief that overwhelms her loved ones, her team, and all those who had the privilege of knowing and supporting her throughout her brilliant career.”

Although Rapp’s professional career lasted only a short time, she had already established herself as one of the sport’s promising young athletes.
