It’s not every day that you receive a note from the Prime Minister’s office.
That was the case in Biggar earlier this week when a letter signed off by P.M Mark Carney was shared to the Town of Biggar office, giving a massive congratulations following the June spectacle “Biggar Country” that joined the annual Fair Days weekend to raise the town’s population in spades while commemorating the completion of the Biggar Revitalization Project.

Biggar’s downtown transformation was celebrated in mid-June with three great country concerts joining a weekend of local fun at Biggar Fair Days, and the recently shared undated letter from Ottawa helped bring those feelings back.
“I would like to convey my warmest greetings to everyone (that took part) in the Biggar Country Celebration, commemorating the completion of the Biggar Revitalization Project,” read the letter. “This country music concert in Brownlee Square (provided) a wonderful opportunity to reflect upon the history of Biggar, to honour those who have contributed to the redevelopment of Main Street and the former Canadian National Railroad grounds, and to share the many memories that have shaped this vibrant community.
“I would like to commend everyone who worked so hard to organize this tribute to the place you are proud to call home. I wish you all a wonderful celebration and continued success,” finished the reading before a signature from the Right Honourable Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney.
Biggar, residents respond
The Town of Biggar shared the letter congratulating the community to social media on Thursday.
The congratulations came after Federal Government contributions helped the revitalization project with an injection of $750,000.
“Way to go BIGGAR!” wrote the town on social media.

The project began back in 2020 with the announcement of former Biggar residents Ina Lou and Wayne Brownlee giving the town a $2.5-million-dollar boost through their foundation, setting off five years of fundraising and planning, that ultimately came to fruition with the “Biggar Country” celebration this past June.
