A body believed to be that of a man in his 20s whose disappearance beneath the Lake of Two Mountains on Sunday afternoon sparked a large-scale rescue operation was pulled from the waters early Monday.
At about 4 p.m. Sunday, a man and woman who were at the nudist section of Oka Beach decided to go for a swim but then found themselves in waters deeper than expected, according to police. The woman was rescued by a passing watercraft, but the man disappeared beneath the waters.
Sûreté du Québec patrol officers and divers, Montreal police and the Montreal fire department were deployed in a search effort along the shorelines and waters, SQ spokesperson Élizabeth Marquis said Monday. Around 1:30 a.m., a body was recovered from the waters.
It will be for the Quebec coroner’s office to officially identify the body, Marquis said.
