Looking to add a bit more colour to your coffee run downtown? Bloom Bakery & Café is the perfect spot for that.
The new cafe, located in the heart of downtown Vancouver at 767 Seymour St., officially soft-opened on Saturday (July 18) bringing a floral-inspired space with authentic Japanese matcha, classic hot and iced drinks and freshly baked croissants to one of the city’s busiest corners.
The cafe is currently open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., with a grand opening planned for Aug. 15, when it will begin operating 24 hours a day.
My take from the sneak peek is that it’s a bright, inviting cafe that stays true to its name. A floral theme flows throughout the space with warm lighting giving a sense of comfort and calmness. Owner Shayesta Azizi, 22, says even more fresh floral touches will be added as centrepieces for the white tables to enhance the theme.
Azizi says creating an affordable cafe without compromising quality was one of her biggest priorities.
“The menu is the highest quality. There’s no compromise on the quality,” she says. “I’m a full-time student, so I look at it through my lens — how much would I pay for this? I’m trying to keep it as low as I can because it’s a tough economy right now.”
Highlights I tried include the iced strawberry matcha latte, matcha crème puff and almond croissant.
The strawberry matcha latte was a refreshing combination of earthy matcha and sweet strawberry flavours, making it a perfect summer treat, which was nicely paired with buttery and nutty almond croissant.
The matcha crème puff was generously loaded with cream on the inside and matcha spread on the top. (Keep some napkins handy, as I wasn’t joking when I said generously loaded with cream.)
The newest cosy addition to the downtown coffee scene is already blooming with bright lights and floral essence.
