VIDEO: International culture celebrated by thousands at Surrey Fusion Festival

The sights, sounds and flavours of cultures from around the world filled Holland Park as Surrey Fusion Festival welcomed thousands of visitors for two days of celebration.
Held Saturday and Sunday (July 18-19), the free festival transformed the park into a bustling cultural hub, where music echoed across multiple stages, the aroma of international cuisine drifted between more than 50 cultural pavilions, and crowds explored performances, displays and interactive experiences throughout the grounds.
Since launching in 2008, Surrey Fusion Festival is said to have grown into British Columbia’s largest free multicultural festival, bringing together food, music and traditions from across the globe while creating opportunities for cultural exchange and community connection.
Presented under this year’s theme, “One World, One Game,” the City of Surrey’s website says the festival is meant to celebrate diversity of Surrey’s communities while embracing the excitement surrounding the FIFA World Cup.
Tournament matches, including the third-place game between England and France and Sunday championship final between Spain and Argentina, were streamed on-site for larger audiences to enjoy.
Live music and dance performances were also scattered throughout this event, keeping audiences entertained throughout the day across eight stages.
Booth volunteers welcomed visitors with cultural displays, historical information and traditional dishes representing countries and regions from around the world.
Families flocked to the festival’s Family Zone, where children enjoyed bouncy castles, games and live entertainment. Cooling stations, misting fans and a spray zone were also included in the event, offering relief from the warm summer temperatures.
The Fusion Festival also provided a sensory-friendly space delivering a quieter environment for those needing a break from the large crowds.
An Indigenous Village was also amongst the festival, offering a peaceful setting and inviting visitors to experience Indigenous culture through performances, artwork, workshops and a marketplace.
The City of Surrey shared on social media that the festival was an incredible weekend and that they are thankful for everyone who made it possible.
