A 21-year-old motorist has been slapped with a $1,993 speeding ticket and 24 demerit points after he was intercepted early Monday by Quebec provincial police for driving 208 km/h on northbound Highway 15 in Laval.
The Sûreté du Québec said the driver was pulled over at about 1 a.m. near Cartier Blvd., where the speed limit is 100 km/h. The motorist’s licence was suspended for seven days.
The incident comes as Quebec is recording a deadly start to its two-week construction holiday period, with a pair of collisions within 24 hours of one another, claiming five lives and leaving one person in critical condition.
