Records are made to be broken, and Montreal Alouettes quarterback Davis Alexander did just that in Week 7.

Alexander threw his 324th consecutive pass without an interception, setting a new CFL record and surpassing the mark previously held by Saskatchewan Roughriders Plaza of Honour quarterback Darian Durant.

Durant joined the SportsCage following the milestone and had nothing but praise for the Alouettes’ young quarterback.

“If there’s a guy I’d like to see break that record, it’s him,” Durant said. “He’s already a star. He landed in the perfect situation with Jason Moss and Anthony Calvillo. As a young quarterback, you couldn’t ask for better coaches to learn from.”

Durant said Alexander has all the tools needed to become one of the CFL’s elite quarterbacks.

“There’s nothing he can’t do,” Durant said. “He can extend plays, he has one of the bigger arms in the league, and he can make every throw. He actually reminds me of a young me—a stocky, strong guy running around making plays. He’s going to be fun to watch as the season goes on.”

Of course, Durant admitted there was one small part of him that hoped his record would survive a little longer.

“Of course,” Durant laughed. “As they were talking about him getting closer, a little piece of me was thinking, ‘Alright, throw one here.’ But at the end of the day, who better to get the record than him?”

Durant believes Alexander has quickly established himself among the CFL’s best quarterbacks and even sees him as an early Most Outstanding Player candidate.

“He’s the next star, in my opinion, and the front-runner for MOP this year,” Durant said. “Kudos to him and congratulations on getting it done.”
