Adams among four people charged

Adams’s arrest was announced by Durham police on Monday after they charged four people in connection with a guns and gangs investigation that concluded on Friday with the arrests of three suspects.

A fourth suspect surrendered to police on Sunday.

Cops alleged in a news release that they were investigating a male suspect believed to be in possession of a firearm and involved in drug trafficking before locating him and a female in a vehicle in Ajax.

They said both were taken into custody without incident and that 3 kg of suspected fentanyl was seized during a search of the vehicle.

Police said they then searched a residence in Pickering, where another female suspect was arrested without incident. They said they allegedly found a loaded firearm – which was reported stolen from Georgia – with a prohibited overcapacity magazine and a replica Uzi during a search of the home.

The suspects were all held for a bail hearing.

Adams, meanwhile, is charged with possession of a firearm obtained by crime, possession of a restricted/prohibited firearm without a licence, possession of a loaded firearm and possession of a prohibited device.

“These allegations have yet to be proven in court,” police said in the news release.

Adams was picked 71st overall by the Cardinals in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft and has since started 16 games for the NFC West Division club, mostly at right guard.

Cardinals players are expected to report to training camp on Wednesday.

Adams was also the top-ranked Canadian prospect heading into the 2024 CFL Draft, but went undrafted. He was added to the Edmonton Elks’ negotiation list on Tuesday, the day after his charges were announced, according to 3DownNation.
