The Montreal Alouettes are expected to have their fourth different starting quarterback in just 11 games this season after announcing Tuesday that Caleb Evans will miss the rest of the season with a torn right ACL.

The 27-year-old Evans was sacked by Sione Teheuma of the B.C. Lions early in the second quarter on Saturday and lay on the turf for several minutes, grasping his leg. After the game, he was using crutches with a large bandage wrapped around his right knee.

James Morgan, who replaced Evans in Vancouver, was getting first-team reps at practice on Tuesday, per Mathieu Bedard of TVA Sports, and is the likely starter for Thursday’s home game against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. A fourth-round pick by the New York Jets out of Bowling Green in 2020, Morgan, 28, bounced between five NFL rosters and the USFL before signing with the Alouettes in January.

Als No. 1 quarterback Davis Alexander suffered a hamstring injury and backup McLeod Bethel-Thompson hurt his elbow earlier this season. Both are on the six-game injured list.

There was a bit of good news Tuesday with Alexander participating in individual drills at practice. The Als have a bye next week, so that could set up Alexander to return in early September.

The Als signed veteran QB Shea Patterson on Tuesday and also added former Toronto Argonauts QB Cameron Dukes earlier this month.

Patterson, who was released by the Blue Bombers during training camp, started two games for the Saskatchewan Roughriders last season.

The Alouettes (5-5) are 4-0 with Alexander as a starter and 1-5 with anyone else this season.
