The annual Haïti en Folie festival celebrating Haitian music, cinema and literature returns for its 20th edition with events across the city starting Thursday.
This year’s event will also commemorate the 222 years of country’s independence and celebrate the team’s return to the FIFA world cup stage after 52 years.
“Despite the challenges, Haiti continues to inspire through its creativity, resilience and remarkable ability to reinvent itself,” said Fabienne Colas, president and founder of the festival.
The four-day festival’s lineup includes music performances by leading artists, screenings of documentaries by filmmakers of Haitian origin and panel discussions on Haitian artists and cuisine, among others.
On Saturday, a culinary fair at Parc Lafontaine will feature traditional dishes, exotic beverages as well as culinary workshops.
The traditional Rara Haïti en Folie Parade will start at Parc des Compagnons in Plateau Mont-Royal at 3 p.m. and go through the neighbourhood’s streets. This year’s parade will be dedicated to the Haiti soccer team.
Saturday’s main event is the Haitian band Boukman Eksperyans who will perform at Parc Lafontaine at 9 p.m.
On Sunday, BélO and other leading artists will close out the show at Parc Lafontaine starting at 7 p.m.
