Who Are The 2026 Blue Bombers? There’s Confusion Around That Question!

As we are at a third of the way through the regular season, I believe that this is an important question to be asking, Who are the 2026 Winnipeg Blue Bombers?

In his last game vs Ottawa, Brown did not play as good as he did the week prior against Toronto. Outside of the fourth quarter and overtime, Winnipeg did not look good.

Even so, on Wednesday July 22nd Matthew Cauz of the CFL ranked him as the third best quarterback in the league (behind Alexander, and Harris, but above Kelly, Fajardo, and Adams Jr.).

Yet, when it came to this week’s picks, Cauz (and almost every other CFL writer) picked Calgary over Winnipeg. You are telling me that Winnipeg’s Brown is the 3rd best quarterback, while Calgary’s Adams is the 6th best…and Cauz is picking Calgary over Winnipeg. Yep. That is exactly what I am saying…though I cannot explain the logic.

That is not to say that picking Calgary over Winnipeg is a fool’s errand. While Winnipeg is higher in the standings, Calgary has been putting up way more points that Winnipeg has. You can read about that here.

Considering that Brown is ranked at the 3rd best quarterback in the CFL, while Adams Jr. is ranked 6th and that Cauz took Calgary over Winnipeg, is it really a surprise that in the latest rendition of the CFL Power Rankings that Winnipeg is at 5th spot and Calgary is at 4th spot?

Actually, yes, yes, I do think it is surprising. This is a quarterback driven league. Without a good quarterback CFL teams are not winning many games. So, to rank Brown way over Adams Jr, and then to put Calgary one spot ahead of Winnipeg in the CFL Power Rankings is a massive head scratcher.

Can all of these things be true at the same time? Or is there another issue at play? Here is what I think. I think the Bombers have not played to their potential yet. But when CFL writers have to make game picks and make power rankings, they can only go off of what has happened so far.

People may believe that Winnipeg is better than a 5th place team in the power rankings, I do. If we just go by the win percentage, Winnipeg should be 4th in the power rankings and Calgary should be tied for 7th.

So, who are the 2026 Winnipeg Blue Bombers? What part of placing them do you most agree or disagree with; the power rankings, the CFL Writer’s picks for this game, where they currently are in the standings?
