Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) has made a bold admission in tonight’s (24 July) episode of Coronation Street.

For months, she hid the fact that she’d pushed Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) to his death on the night of Carla and Lisa Connor-Swain’s (Alison King and Vicky Myers) wedding.

Ex-boyfriend Gary Windass (Mikey North) helped to cover her tracks, leading to his wife Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) believing that they were having an affair.

The reality has unravelled over recent weeks, with Sarah finally arrested and then charged with murder.

Maria still wants answers, however. Despite nothing sexual happening between the two, it’s clear that there’s some underlying affection for one another. She may never be able to trust Gary again.

In today’s instalment, she swanned into the prison to confront Sarah. Maria was furious that she’d entwined her family in the mess, and wanted her to promise that she would keep Gary’s name out of any further conversations with the police.

Sarah knew that the time had come to finally confess to the murder, despite previous insistence that she had no involvement. It was destroying her own clan – young son Harry (Joshua Leavy) is facing the prospect of growing up without a mother, and was casting a shadow over a joyful moment for brother David (Jack P. Shepherd) and sister-in-law Shona (Julia Goulding).

They’d just found out that their daughter Harper could return from hospital after 7 months.

Lisa was next on Sarah’s visiting list, and was glad to finally have an admission of guilt. Sarah explained that she didn’t intend to kill Theo, but panicked and then rushed off to David’s house, where his sister-in-law Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances Brown) had attacked her.

During a pause in the conversation, Lisa revealed that details from her call log had been returned. It showed that, shortly after Theo’s death, Sarah had called Gary.

Quickly covering, Sarah said that she’d been enquiring about a computer game that Harry was interested in, and that although she had planned on telling him what she’d done, she didn’t want to involve him. Lisa listened intently, but didn’t believe a word.

Later, Sarah called copper boyfriend Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) and made him promise to keep Gary’s name out of the frame. He assured her that everyone was pulling together in her absence, and she then admitted the truth about Jodie attacking her.

Kit was also mindful that his job would be on the line should he continue to protect Sarah.

Meanwhile, Gary pleaded with Maria for one last chance. He assured her that he loved her, and she admitted that despite everything, she still loved him.

Will Gary get away scot-free, or is there more drama to come?
