Get your name on a piece of the Surrey-Langley SkyTrain

Members of the public will be able to put their name on a major piece of transportation infrastructure Saturday at the Sign A Segment SkyTrain event.
The Surrey-Langley SkyTrain project will have a concrete guideway segment at the Hillcrest Village Shopping Centre, at 18710 Fraser Hwy, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on July 25.
Visitors will be invited to see the segment piece up close – rather than dangling from one of the four launcher gantries installing the components – and to add their name to a panel that will be placed inside that segment before it is installed.
They will also be able to meet members of the SkyTrain project team.
Thousands of the guideway segments are being hoisted into place and connected to one another to make the 16 kilometre Surrey-Langley Skytrain route that will extend the rapid transit network from the King George Station down Fraser Highway and Industrial Avenue to the eventual new end of the line at Langley City Centre Station.
The four gantry launchers are giant cranes that sit on top of the pillars and move along the route, hoisting each guideway segment into place as they travel. The Langley Launcher is currently heading east and is close to 64 Avenue and Fraser Highway, after starting at the Hillcrest-184 Street Station.
Once the guideway is in place, track and electrical systems will be installed and the eight new stations must be completed.
The new SkyTrain extension is expected to start operations in late 2029.
