Brent Crews’ first career laps at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway were fast, but didn’t end the way the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series rookie wanted them to.
Crews, who was seventh-fastest in Friday’s O’Reilly Series practice session at IMS, scrubbed the wall and had to take his No. 19 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota to the garage early.
The No. 19 team fixed Crews’ car enough to push it back through NASCAR technical inspection near the end of the session, indicating that it should be good to go for qualifying on Saturday.
Crews’ wall contact was the only incident of the session, though his JGR teammate in William Sawalich nearly hit the wall as well.
Meanwhile, Ross Chastain jumped to the top of the speed chart in the session’s waning moments.
Notable practice results
Series points leader Justin Allgaier, Carson Kvapil, Sam Mayer and Chase Elliott rounded out the top five, with defending series champion Jesse Love, Crews, Austin Hill, Sammy Smith and Dean Thompson completing the top 10.
Other notable practice results include Parker Retzlaff in 13th, Sheldon Creed in 14th, William Sawalich in 16th, Taylor Gray in 17th and Corey Day in 22nd.
Many drivers made mock qualifying runs in the closing minutes of practice, which drastically shook up the leaderboard.
O’Reilly Series qualifying will take place at noon ET Saturday on the CW App, with Saturday’s Pennzoil 250 going green shortly after 4 p.m. ET on the CW and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
