Waterford’s Séamus Power fired a sensational third round eight-under-par 63 to leap into contention at the 3M Open in Minnesota.
Power, who started the day in a tie for 24th, went into the clubhouse with a share of the lead, although Jackson Koivun’s brilliant 61 gave the PGA Tour newcomer a three-shot lead at 20 under par.
Koivun, in his just third tournament as a professional, holds a three-shot lead on Ben Kohles and Argentina’s Emiliano Grillo going to Sunday’s final round at TPC Twin Cities.
Michael Kim, who carded an incredible 59 on Friday, finished on 15-under par.
The bogey-free round from the Irishman started with birdies on the third and fourth holes, before adding ones at the seventh and ninth to make it to the turn in four-under.
Power closed strongly with birdies at 12, 14, 16 and the final hole, the par five 18th, to temporarily sit on top of the leaderboard at 14-under-par, while he dropped down to a tie for ninth at the end of play.
He shares that place with three others including world number one Scottie Scheffler, who shot a 64.
The four time major winner mixed seven birdies and an eagle with two bogeys, to join the logjam just below the summit.
Competing in the tournament for the first time, he posted an eight under score on the backside, highlighted by an eagle with a chip from the greenside rough on the par-4 16th.
