Terrebonne home destroyed by fire that began on barbecue

A violent fire that started on an outdoor barbecue of a home in Terrebonne Saturday night destroyed the single-family residence.

The occupants, three adults and a child, fled safely on their own and no injuries were reported.

The fire, which started shortly after midnight, spread quickly from the charcoal barbecue on the back balcony to the interior of the home on du Cannelier St. in Terrebonne’s La Plaine neighbourhood. By the time firefighters arrived, the flames had spread to the roof.

Although the home was a total loss, firefighters were able to contain the flames. The two neighbouring houses suffered only minimal damage.

Terrebonne is an off-island suburb of Montreal, located north of Laval across the Mille-Îles River.
