Swedish duo Roxette will not be bringing their 40th anniversary tour to North America after all.
The 14-date run, including a stop at the Bell Centre in Montreal on Sept. 14, has been cancelled, the 1980s and ’90s hitmakers said in a statement.
“Due to logistics and hugely increased touring costs, Live Nation US has decided to postpone the North American tour. Hope to see you some other time down the road,” the group said.
Frontman Per Gessle expanded upon the cancellation on Instagram, saying the group was “of course disappointed” and that Live Nation US’s decision was “probably based on their own calculations.
“We were really looking forward to this North American tour and US is by far our biggest streaming market,” he wrote, adding that the band hopes to play for American and Canadian fans “at some point in the near future.”
The band recently celebrated a streaming milestone with the video for It Must Have Been Love surpassing 1 billion views on YouTube.
