LIV Golf is planning to announce on Wednesday that it won’t hold its season-ending event in Michigan, the league’s Team Championship, according to sources who were briefed on the league’s plans.

The move comes just a week after LIV player Martin Kaymer told multiple outlets it was “highly unlikely” the tournament would take place amid the league’s search for new investment. The Detroit News also reported last week that there had been no infrastructure buildout at The Cardinal at Saint John’s Resort for the tournament, which was set for Aug. 27-30. It wasn’t clear if LIV would try and make one of its remaining two tournaments into a team championship-style event.

LIV has been searching for investors since Saudi Arabia’s PIF, which still holds controlling interest, announced it would stop funding the league at the end of this season. The Scottish publication Bunkered reported last week that interest in investing in LIV has been “high,” and that the league had narrowed its search to two potential investors, though no deal has been secured yet. CEO Scott O’Neil said in June the league was seeking as much as $350M.

The news to not contest the Michigan event comes after LIV already postponed another 2026 tournament that was scheduled for June in New Orleans. That event has not yet been rescheduled.

Earlier this month, Mobii, a tech vendor with LIV, sued the league for breach of contract and was seeking $1M in damages. Mobii was behind LIV’s “Any Shot, Any Time” broadcast innovation that was cut earlier this year. Three weeks ago, LIV informed its employees of potential layoffs.

LIV did have a strong event in the U.K. last week with 50,000 fans on the ground throughout the week.

With the cancellation of the Michigan tournament, LIV has two events remaining on its 2026 schedule. It plays next week at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster, and then is slated to compete at The Club at Chatham Hills near Indianapolis on Aug. 20-23.
