It’s official –  Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown is seeking a third term for the city’s top job.

Brown made the announcement on Tuesday and is now one of eight candidates registered to run for mayor of Brampton in the October municipal election.

“Together, we will continue to build, continue to deliver, and ensure Brampton can manage any challenge we face,” Brown said in a post on social media. “We will keep building a stronger and more prosperous future for our city.”

A spokesperson for the mayor confirmed to INsauga.com earlier this month that Brown was planning to run again, but the mayor had previously said in October he hadn’t officially made a decision ahead of the birth of his third child.

Brown is married to Genevieve Gualtieri-Brown, who is also the daughter of Silvia Gualtier, the Progressive Conservative MPP for Mississauga East—Cooksville.

He was first elected mayor of Brampton in 2018 following allegations of sexual misconduct which the mayor has denied and led to a settlement with CTV News. Those allegations saw Brown ousted as the Ontario PC leader and replaced by Doug Ford, who would go on to become premier.

He then made a failed bid in 2022 for Conservative Party of Canada leader but was disqualified over allegations that his campaign broke election finance rules. The Office of the Commissioner of Canada Elections dismissed the allegations in 2024.

Brown sailed into a second term in Brampton later that year with 59.65 per cent of votes. He faced off against five other candidates in the race – Nikki Kaur, Bob Dosanjh Singh, Vidya Sagar Gautam, Prabh Kaur Mand, and Tony Moracci. The closest candidate to challenge Brown in that race was Kaur, who received around 25 per cent of the vote.

In October, the candidates gunning for Brown’s job are non-profit worker Sandeep Somal, entrepreneur Jagruti Bhatt, independent 2025 Ontario provincial election candidate for Brampton-Chinguacousy Park Avi Dhaliwal, Vidya Gautam, Gaurav Walia and Tirth Patel.

The election will be held on Oct. 26, and the deadline to enter the race is Aug. 21 at 2 p.m.

Brown’s tenure in Brampton has seen its share of turmoil, including a bloc of City Councillors who skipped meetings in 2022 to protest of what they called “authoritarian dictatorship” under Brown, a scrapped forensic audit during the $629,000 Brampton U scandal, and attempted foreign interference in his 2022 Conservative leadership campaign.

Low taxes, keeping the community safe and finishing Brampton’s second hospital are some of the priorities Brown says he will focus on if he’s elected for a third term.
