A 51-year-old man was rushed to hospital after he was stabbed Tuesday night while trying to help a woman who appeared to be suffering from an overdose, Winnipeg police say.
A 31-year-old man, who was known to the woman who appeared to be overdosing, was arrested a short time later in connection with the attack, police said in a Wednesday news release.
The 51-year-old victim had stopped to help the woman in Elva Fletcher Way, a park at the northwest corner of Osborne Street and Jubilee Avenue, around 9:15 p.m. when he was attacked and stabbed in the upper body, police said.
The man was sent to hospital in unstable condition. Police had no update Wednesday on his condition.
The woman was also hospitalized for medical attention, police said.

Amber Gosek, who lives in the area, said multiple police cars, two fire trucks and an ambulance descended on the area.
Another neighbour, Paul Vincent, said he saw at least five police cruisers, including canine units.
“Huge commotion, with police dogs and highly armed police officers running past in all directions,” he said.
The 31-year-old was spotted by patrol officers, with help from a canine unit, just before 11 p.m. on Brandon Avenue between Osborne and Hay streets, about 10 blocks away from the scene of the attack. He tried to run away but was caught, police say. Two knives were seized as evidence.
The man is charged with assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon.
