Lightning struck twice for a Brampton grandfather who has won his second big lottery prize, bringing his winnings to more than $240,000.
Brian M. is a proud father of two and grandfather from Brampton who won over $140,000 playing Pools in 2021. And he’s celebrating again after winning another $100,000 in the July 3 Lotto Max draw.
The retiree said he was enjoying a quiet night at home when he decided to check the winning numbers and matched the last six of seven Encore numbers in exact order.
“I said, ‘Oh my – I won $100,000!’ I was so happy,” he said while picking up his latest winnings at the OLG prize centre in Toronto.
“This win feels like a reminder that good things can happen when you least expect them,” he said.
In 2021, Brian’s Football Pools Card earned him a six-figure payday with a prize of $143,496.80.
The first person he told about his second win was his wife, and says she was “shocked.”
“It’s wonderful to share this surprise with family,” he said.
Brian plans to invest a portion of his winnings and take a vacation in Mexico.
Encore offers 22 ways to win and can be played along with most lottery games for an extra $1 with two draws every day. The OLG says it supports safe play and responsible gambling through its PlaySmart program.
The winning ticket was purchased at Petro-Canada on Finch Avenue West in North York.
The OLG issued notices on Wednesday for two $50,000 prizes that were won last year, but have yet to be handed out.
One of them was won by a ticket sold in Brampton, with the winning numbers 8 – 2 – 1 – 8 – 3 – 6 – 6 – 9. The other unclaimed prize went to a ticket sold in Algoma District in northern Ontario, which had the winning numbers 0 – 8 – 7 – 9 – 4 – 0 – 5 – 1.
