A 23-year-old woman is charged with second-degree murder after a 58-year-old woman was fatally stabbed in downtown Winnipeg on Tuesday afternoon.
Officers were called with a report a woman had been stabbed on Portage Avenue, in the area near Portage Place, around 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday. They found a woman with life-threatening injuries, police said in a Thursday news release.
She was taken to hospital in critical condition and later died of her injuries.
Police identified the victim as Helen Annie Spence, 58, a member of Misipawistik Cree Nation (formerly known as Grand Rapids First Nation) who had been living in Winnipeg.
Shante Trinity Paul, 23, was arrested early Wednesday morning and has been charged with second-degree murder. She remains in custody.
