A road rage incident that quickly turned into a fistfight between two drivers at the side of a busy Greater Toronto Area highway on Thursday morning has police on the hunt for one of the combatants.
Ontario Provincial Police Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said witnesses to the incident, which quickly unfolded just after morning rush hour on southbound Highway 427 between Dundas and Bloor streets, helped lead police to one of the people believed to have been involved in the roadside dustup.
He added the second combatant is now being sought, noting in a brief video posted to social media late Thursday afternoon that police are looking for additional witnesses or for the wanted woman to turn herself in to authorities.
Schmidt, a veteran OPP officer who’s patrolled GTA highways for more than two decades, said the confrontation unfolded at around 9:30 a.m. on the morning of July 30 on the side of the major highway that runs along the Toronto-Mississauga border.
“An altercation took place between two drivers” who then stepped out of their vehicles on the side of the busy highway and became “engaged in some sort of physical altercation, throwing fists and throwing punches,” Schmidt, standing on the Bloor Street bridge over Highway 427, said in the video that was posted to X.
Both people involved then left the area in their vehicles, he added.
With help from witnesses, police tracked down one of the people involved in the road rage incident a short time later, according to Schmidt.
The woman being sought by police is further described as Black, about 35 years of age, standing 5-foot-7 and weighing 175 pounds. She was wearing a light blue shirt and blue jeans at the time of the incident and was driving a light blue Volkswagen with green, gold and black “Jamaican boxing gloves” hanging from the rearview mirror.
Anyone with information is urged to call Toronto OPP at 416-235-4981.
