A woman from Las Vegas, Nevada was left needing both legs amputated after a severe cough she caught at a family wedding turned out to be influenza A and led to life-threatening sepsis. Denise Dibrell, 52, spent 40 days in a coma after going into septic shock, and doctors later amputated both legs below the knee when a lack of blood flow caused her feet to die. A year on, she is learning to walk again with prosthetic legs.
