A familiar destination for Brampton crafters, parents and do-it-yourself shoppers is closing its doors this weekend.

The Michaels store at 120 Resolution Dr. in the 410 & Steeles Retail Centre is permanently shutting down, according to store employees.

The closure leaves Brampton with just one remaining Michaels location: the store at Trinity Commons, 80 Great Lakes Drive.

The Resolution Drive location has operated in the plaza for several years and has become a go-to stop for shoppers looking for arts and crafts supplies, seasonal decorations and creative materials.

Michaels is one of North America’s largest specialty arts and crafts retailers, offering everything from paint, yarn and jewelry-making supplies to floral products, home décor, baking supplies and custom framing services.

The store has traditionally attracted a wide range of customers, including parents looking for school project materials, teachers stocking classrooms, hobbyists working on personal projects and small businesses that rely on specialized craft supplies.

The closing store is currently holding clearance sales, although shoppers online have noted much of the remaining inventory has already been moved to other Michaels locations.

Several customers have expressed disappointment about the closure, with some saying they preferred the Resolution Drive location because it was easier to navigate and offered strong customer service.

One shopper on social media said they would miss the location, while others said they were surprised the store was closing because they regularly saw customers coming in and out.

Others suggested the closure may be linked to broader challenges facing specialty retail, including changing shopping habits and rising costs.

The closure is part of a broader history for Michaels, which was founded in Texas in 1973 and grew into North America’s largest arts and crafts retailer. The company expanded into Canada in the 1990s and now operates more than 1,200 stores across North America.
