The City of Winnipeg will begin fogging Friday night after the population certain mosquitoes double in a week.
The City says it is required to fog when trap counts include a high number of Culex tarsalis mosquitoes which are more likely to transmit West Nile Virus.
The following areas will be fogged Friday starting at 9:30 p.m.:
North Inkster Industrial, Tyndall Park
Burrows – Keewatin, Inkster Industrial Park
Inkster Gardens, Mandalay West, The Maples
Amber Trails, Rosser – Old Kildonan
Officials also shared several measures to protect onerself from West Nile Virus:
Reduce mosquito numbers by getting rid of mosquito habitats around your home
Reduce the time you spend outdoors between dusk and dawn
The peak mosquito hours are around dusk and dawn, but Culex mosquitoes will also bite during the night
Wear light-coloured, loose-fitting, long-sleeved tops and pants when outside
Apply an appropriate insect repellent, according to Health Canada Guidelines and label instructions
Check that door and window screens fit tightly and are free of holes
