No 4 seed Diana Shnaider won against Liudmila Samsonova 6-3, 6-4 to reach the semi-finals of the Mubadala DC Open on Friday evening.
Shnaider, ranked No 18, will face American Jessica Pegula, the top seed, next.
In the previous rounds, Samsonova, ranked No 70, won against Chinese Xinyu Wang (6-2, 6-2) and edged out American Madison Keys, the No 6 seed (3-6, 6-4, 6-4).
