Residents in Winnipeg’s rapidly growing Waverley West neighbourhood are a step closer to a permanent fire-paramedic station as the City of Winnipeg has issued a request for proposals for the project.
The new station will replace the temporary modular facility that has operated on Eaglewood Drive since 2024. City officials say the permanent building will help meet growing demand for emergency services as Waverley West continues to expand.
Mayor Scott Gillingham said the project is part of the city’s broader investment in emergency services, alongside the addition of new fire trucks and more firefighters.
The facility will be modelled after Fire Station 21 in Transcona and is expected to improve emergency response times for residents and businesses in one of Winnipeg’s fastest-growing communities.

Once construction is complete, the temporary station will be relocated to another part of Winnipeg. The city has not announced where it will be moved.
Coun. Vivian Santos, chair of the Standing Policy Committee on Community Services, said the new station is an important investment in public safety for the growing neighbourhood.
Waverley West Coun. Janice Lukes said the temporary station has helped serve the community during a period of rapid growth and welcomed plans for a permanent, state-of-the-art facility.
Fire and Paramedic Chief Ryan Sneath said the new station will help crews respond more quickly while continuing to provide the reliable fire and paramedic services residents expect.
Pilot project for construction contracts
The project will also be the first non-road infrastructure project to use Canadian Construction Documents Committee contracts as part of the city’s pilot program.
The standardized contracts are intended to simplify the construction process, encourage more contractors to bid on city projects and help reduce disputes and delays.
Darryl Harrison, president and CEO of the Winnipeg Construction Association, said expanding the use of the contracts to building projects should encourage greater competition and deliver better value for taxpayers.
