Maple Leafs Goaltender Shares Health Update
Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz recently shared a promising health update that should reassure Leafs Nation. After a strong 2024-25 season, Stolarz is gearing up for another big year as part of Toronto’s 1A-1B tandem.
Stolarz, 31, suffered a concussion in Game 1 of Toronto’s second-round playoff series against the Florida Panthers. The injury occurred after Panthers forward Sam Bennett elbowed him, forcing him to miss the rest of the series.
During an appearance on Toronto Sports Rush, Stolarz said he’s feeling better and is ready for the upcoming season. He increased his offseason workload and has returned to skating and training regularly.
“Everything’s great. I’m kind of back to normal. I’ve been skating, been training with my trainers back home,” Stolarz said. “You obviously take those first couple months just to kind of relax and recoup a bit, but I’ve ramped up a lot since probably middle of June. So, I’m feeling good and eager for the new season to start.”
Stolarz signed a two-year deal with the Maple Leafs in 2024. He made an immediate impact, posting a 21-8-3 record with a 2.14 GAA and .926 save %.
Anthony Stolarz Opens Up About Overcoming Injuries
Stolarz also discussed his injury history and credited his support system for helping him bounce back.
Throughout his career, injuries have slowed his momentum. Despite that, many view him as a solution to a long-standing issue hindering the team’s playoff success.
Goaltending remains a key factor in Toronto’s postseason hopes. With that in mind, Stolarz said he focused his offseason on improving his durability and overall conditioning.
“It’s the biggest thing this summer that I’ve kind of been focusing on is just tryin to get as much cardio and strength I can in my body,” Stolarz told Toronto Sports Rush. “It’s not ideal, but I think at the end of the day, it’s made me a stronger person mentally just to be able to overcome that adversity.”
He continued:
“Five, six years ago, people were counting me out. And, maybe I was counting myself out at that time, but looking back, just being able to overcome that, being in the position that I am now, I’m extremely grateful for that.”
Anthony Stolarz Believes the Maple Leafs Can Achieve Success
Leafs fans continue to hope for the end of the franchise’s Stanley Cup drought dating back to 1967.
Stolarz believes last season marked a step forward. Despite the loss of Mitch Marner, the veteran goaltender remains optimistic and trusts head coach Criag Berube.
“I think we just kind of have to stay the course. I think another year, having [Berube] and having his staff with us, I think it’s only gonna help build us and make us stronger,” Stolarz said. “We could see the results that we had last year playing that style, playing that way.
He added:
“We won the division, made it to the second round. Obviously, no one wants to hear that. Everyone wants to win the last game of the season, but it’s something that we’re just going to continue to have to build.”
