Can Canada’s men’s relay team win gold?

Canada’s men’s 4x100m relay team advances to Commonwealth Games final
Canada’s Aaron Brown, Jerome Blake, Duan Asemota and Andre De Grasse advanced to the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games men’s 4×100-metre relay final, with a time of 38.52 seconds.
Hi, I’m a senior contributor with CBC Sports.
The good news for Team Canada fans: the 37.56 clocking the quartet posted during the heats at World Relays in May is still the third-fastest time in the world this season. But questions still remain. How much faster would they have run if Jerome Blake hadn’t suffered an injury in the final? Blake didn’t qualify for the 100-metre final in Glasgow, so is he still near his 9.93 second peak? And, crucially, which members of Canada’s next generation of sprinters are ready to take the baton and the torch from the veteran squad that won gold in Paris in 2024?
We got a glimpse in the heats, where Duan Asemota ran third, in place of relay specialist Brendon Rodney, who has handled the curve for Team Canada since 2015. Canada finished second in its heat, clocking in a time of 38.53 seconds, behind Nigeria. But Rodney is back for the final.
The other heat featured the only team in the field to out-perform Canada this year – South Africa, which ran 37.49 to win World Relays silver in May. True to form, the South Africans advanced to the final by winning their opening round in 38.30.
