A homicide investigation is active just north of Cochrane after the body of a young Calgary woman was discovered in the Cremona area earlier this week.

Calgary Police Service detectives were called to the rural location on July 29 following the discovery.

Following a Friday autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, authorities identified the victim as 21-year-old Shakira Bearspaw.

The medical examiner ruled the circumstances surrounding her death as suspicious.

Investigators briefly took one person into custody in connection with the case, but that individual has since been released.

Police say the investigation remains in its early stages, and no additional details are currently available.

CPS are urging anyone with information to contact Calgary police at 403-266-1234, or reach out anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
