An Oakville mother has transformed her son’s love for collecting treasures at the beach into her debut Sandeep children’s picture book

Oakville’s newest author, Sandeep Kaur, is celebrating a significant milestone in her career: the release of her first ever children’s book, set right here in Oakville.

Titled Sartaj’s Beach Treasure, the book centres around a curious little boy who goes to the beach and finds several little treasures in the sand.

Kaur was inspired to write this book while following her son Sartaj’s love of finding small treasures at Oakville’s Coronation Park and bringing them to her.

“I used to go to the beach at Coronation Park with my son,” Kaur said. “He would find stones and leaves and he would say: Mama, I found this treasure for you.”

Another message that Kaur wanted to present in this book is the ability to stay present and in the moment with your child.

“This book is about staying present and in the moment with children. Every gift a child gives to their parents is from their heart and this also has a gentle story about cherishing the things children find from nature.”

The idea of staying present is not just important in regards to children, but also needed for everyone and Kaur wanted to endorse that in her book.

“We all have so many things going on in this world,” Kaur said.

“But if we can come back to ourselves in the present and focus on the things that are most important to us now, a lot of stress can fade away because we will be able to see what truly matters to us.”

Sartaj’s Beach Treasure is available to purchase on Amazon in either a paperback or kindle version.
