Nick Aldis showcased his undeniable in-ring skills in his debut match for WWE at SummerSlam: Minnesota Night One, but it ultimately wasn’t enough for him to beat Gunther in front of his family.

Aldis brought the fight to the Ring General, trading blows and even locking in his opponent’s signature Sleeper Hold. After taking control of the proceedings after an initial burst from Aldis, Gunther got to work, doing what he does best: wearing down his opponent with chops and a series of strikes while also taking trash with their family members, in this case, Mickie James and her son.

Gunther tried to put Aldis to sleep multiple times, but the latter found ways to break the hold. He rallied the momentum back with Superplexes, Diving Elbows, and Powerslams, as the audience erupted with “You still got it” chants. After a few unsuccessful attempts, Aldis finally locked in the Kingsclere Cloverleaf, but Gunther managed to get to the ropes.

The final stages of the match saw Aldis reverse a Sleeper Hold attempt from Gunther. However, the latter broke the stranglehold with a Suplex and followed it up with a Powerbomb. After Aldis refused to stay down, Gunther rained down blows on his chest and locked in the Sleeper Hold, ultimately leading to the former TNA World Champion tapping out.

Aldis received a standing ovation from the audience for his incredible performance as he shared a wholesome moment with his family and acknowledged the crowd.
