Hamilton-born and Caledonia-raised cyclist Caleb Leary touched down on the shore of the Atlantic Saturday in Cape Spear Newfoundland, completing an extraordinary journey across Canada in support of animal welfare. The arrival in Cape Spear marked the completion of his coast-to-coast ride from Vancouver Island to the easternmost point in North America. Caleb began Courage Canada Crossing on May 22 from Tofino BC, with very little formal cycling training. Over the past two months, he has crossed Canada solo by bicycle, traveling through communities from coast to coast while facing difficult weather, long distances, equipment problems and challenging terrain. Throughout the journey, he has been raising awareness and funds for animal welfare.

Caleb was born in Hamilton, raised in Caledonia, and now lives back in Hamilton and is also a University of Guelph alumnus, who studied kinesiology and will be attending Mohawk College this fall to become an MRI technician. The Hamilton and Haldimand communities have followed his progress as he traveled over 7,000km across the country. The trip involved 66 riding days and a few rest days that took Caleb from one campground to another as he set up his tent. That works out to the equivalent of cycling from Hamilton to Pickering each day. The purpose of the trip was to raise money for animal sanctuaries across Canada.
