LETTER: Does Surrey have a rat problem?

Editor,

Does Surrey have a rat/rodent problem?

Recently I was on the Serpentine Greenway, near 125th Street and 75th Avenue. I saw something that shocked me. It was a “mischief” of large rats …probably over 20 of them, in the early evening, right on the pathway. They showed no sign of being frightened off.

In my life I have never seen this. The person whom was with me stated that “someone must be feeding them” as it was peculiar to see this. The marsh bushes in that area are probably a wonderland for them. So if you realize the breeding cycle of these rodents, the problem is now epidemic in that area.

In my opinion something must be addressed now, before it’s too late . I cannot imagine owning a home so close to that area. I never imagined that existed in our city in this day and age.
