A big recall has been issued that impacts nearly 37,000 vehicles in Canada.

A number of models are impacted and the issue could lead to the vehicles rolling away, officials say.

“On certain vehicles, moisture could enter the driver-side door lock microswitch and cause it to corrode,” Transport Canada said in a notice.

“As a result, the microswitch may fail to automatically engage the parking brake and/or the auto park feature when the door is opened. If this happens, the vehicle could roll away…. A parked vehicle that rolls away could create the risk of an injury or a crash.”

The recall is from Mercedes-Benz and involves the following models / model years:

A CLASS — 2019 2020 2021 2022 2023 2024 2025 2026
C CLASS — 2019 2020 2021 2022 2023 2024 2025 2026
CLA CLASS — 2019 2020 2021 2022 2023 2024 2025 2026
CLE CLASS — 2019 2020 2021 2022 2023 2024 2025 2026
GLA CLASS — 2019 2020 2021 2022 2023 2024 2025 2026

GLC CLASS — 2019 2020 2021 2022 2023 2024 2025 2026

Overall, there are 36,862 vehicles that are impacted in Canada.

Transport Canada said the problem could also cause the radio and/or interior lights to stay on after getting out of the vehicle.

“To reduce the safety risk, Mercedes-Benz recommends that you should always use the parking brake when you park,” the recall notice said.

Mercedes will notify owners about the problem by mail.

They will be advised to take their vehicle to a dealership to have the driver-side door lock replaced.
