More NHL star power has been added to the upcoming Hockey Night in Brampton charity game, with Toronto Maple Leafs’ defensemen Morgan Rielly among the latest additions.

The city is gearing up for the fifth-annual installment of the charity hockey game that’s raised some $56.7 million dollars for the Peel Memorial Centre upgrade project, and has already announced Hall of Famers Paul Coffey and Mike Modano will be part of the rosters.

On Tuesday, the city announced Reilly will captain one of the teams while Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Erik Gudbranson and Stanley Cup champion Kris Versteeg will also take part in the event later this month.

Brampton native and former Maple Leaf Phil Oreskovic, and local NHL draft pick Ethan Czata have also been added to the lineup for what the city says will be “an unforgettable night of hockey in their hometown.”

The latest round of players join NHL alums Joe Kocur, Ryan Getzlaf and Cody Hodgson, current NHL stars Dylan Strome and Owen Power, and team coaches Doug Gilmour, Wendel Clark and Gary Roberts.

Launched in 2019 under the direction of Mayor Patrick Brown, Hockey Night in Brampton has become Canada’s largest charity hockey game and supports the William Osler Health System Foundation and the transformation of Peel Memorial into Brampton’s long-awaited second hospital.

“We’re proud to welcome Morgan Rielly as captain, alongside Kris Versteeg, Erik Gudbranson, Phil Oreskovic and Ethan Czata, as they join us in supporting Brampton’s second hospital,” Brown said in a release. “Every player, sponsor and fan who takes part is helping make a lasting difference for our community.”

Last year’s game raised a record $6.7 million, with nearly $21 million donated over the last two years and a historic $50-million pledge toward the hospital project. Plans for the upgrade include a new emergency department, expanded outpatient services, and increased capacity to serve a growing population.

The game takes place Wednesday, Aug. 19, at the CAA Centre, with doors opening at 6 p.m. and puck drop scheduled for 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale for $36.
