Politics will be front and centre in Cloverdale over the next two months.
The Cloverdale District Chamber of Commerce is kicking off its Conversations With Leaders series Aug. 18 when the Chamber welcomes B.C. Green Party leader Emily Lowan. Several political discourse sessions will follow in September.
The Chamber promises their Conversations With Leaders series will offer a chance for community members and business owners to chat directly with political leaders about the ideas that shape public policy in B.C.
Scott Wheatley, the executive director of the Cloverdale Chamber, said the political chinwags are designed to be open, respectful, and non-partisan.
As for Lowan, she was named leader of the B.C. Greens nearly a year ago in September, 2025.
“We are pleased to welcome Emily Lowan for the first event in our Conversations with Leaders series,” said Wheatley. “These conversations will give our members and residents a meaningful opportunity to hear directly from political leaders, ask questions, and ensure East Surrey perspectives are part of the broader provincial discussion.”
According to a press release about the event, Lowan will “share her vision for the province and discuss the issue she believes matters the most” to voters.
Event-goers will also get a chance to ask her some questions.
Wheatley is encouraging local business owners and members of the community in East Surrey—Cloverdale, Clayton, and Campbell Heights—to attend.
The free event has limited seating. The Chamber asks that people register in advance. Walk-ins will be welcomed and seated based on availability.
Lowan’s event will run from 2-3 p.m. on Aug. 18 at the Cloverdale District Chamber of Commerce (5738 176th Street).
The Chamber is also hosting two all-candidate meetings this fall for the Surrey municipal election along with a civic slate open house series.
The all-candidates meetings will be held Sept. 22 (council candidates) and Sept. 23 (mayoral candidates).
Confirmed civic slate open houses include: Sept. 9 – Imagine Surrey, Sept. 14 – Surrey Now, Sept. 15 – Surrey Connect, Sept. 17 – Surrey First, and Sept. 18 – Conservative Party of Surrey. The Chamber is still trying to schedule a date for the Safe Surrey Coalition. All open-house meetings will run from 5 – 7 p.m.
