A man is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after an officer-involved shooting during a Toronto police investigation in Mississauga early Thursday.
The incident occurred in the area of Council Ring Road and The Collegeway around 3 a.m.
According to Peel Regional Police, Toronto Police Service officers were conducting an investigation when shots were fired. One man suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital.
Three people were taken into custody and police say there are no outstanding suspects.
A Toronto police officer was also taken to hospital with minor injuries after being involved in a collision related to the incident. Another man was transported to hospital with minor injuries.
The Special Investigations Unit has invoked its mandate and will investigate the circumstances surrounding the police shooting.
Peel police say a heavy police presence remains in the area and roads around Council Ring Road and The Collegeway are expected to remain closed for several hours while investigators examine the scene.
Motorists are being asked to avoid the area.
The SIU is responsible for investigating incidents involving police in Ontario that result in death, serious injury, the discharge of a firearm at a person or allegations of sexual assault.
No further information has been released about the investigation or the identities of those involved.
