For the second time this season, and the first in WNBA history, the Storm have a double-digit losing streak.

Seattle suffered its 10th straight loss following a 92-86 defeat against the New York Liberty on Wednesday night.

In a battle between past and present Storm stars, Dominique Malonga finished with 31 points and 10 rebounds and won her personal matchup versus Liberty ace Breanna Stewart, who had 28 points and eight rebounds.

Awa Fam and Jade Melbourne each had 13 points and Flau’jae Johnson added 11 for the Storm, who fell to 6-27 and have the second-most losses in franchise history — three shy of the record set in 2023.

In their previous seven outings, the Storm allowed 99.8 points per game, including a 95-83 loss against the Liberty on Monday.

Before the stretch, Seattle surrendered 86.4 points per game, which included a 99-88 win against New York on June 25.

Several factors have led to the defensive downturn.

“It’s a few things and we’ve broken those down,” coach Sonia Raman said. “The first phase is the transition defense. Obviously, that needs to be better in our previous game and in other games. Just being able to get back. … It kind of comes down to the execution of the coverages. Know your personnel, game plan discipline and just the communication.

“Chipping away at all of those and trying to find the best coverages for not only just for the scout, but for ourselves and what you know we’re best at defensively. But I think at the end of the day, just playing really hard and really talking on the floor on the defensive end will help us a lot.”

Forty-eight hours earlier at Barclays Center, the Storm surrendered 15 straight points late in the game that allowed the Liberty to push a three-point lead to 18 and proved to be the knockout blow.

During Wednesday’s rematch, New York ripped off an early 12-0 run to go up 17-4 and led 21-6 in the first quarter after Stewart, the former Storm star, converted a driving layup over Malonga.

The Storm, who cut their deficit to 47-43 at halftime, overcame another slow start and tied it at 50-50 when Melbourne converted a layup and hit the ensuing free throw with 7:22 left in the third quarter.

However, the good times didn’t last long, and the Liberty regained control with a 12-2 run to go up 62-52.

Jonquel Jones tallied 14 points and 15 rebounds while Sabrina Ionescu scored 15 points and Rebecca Allen 12 for New York, which won its third straight game and improved to 19-13.

The Storm’s four-game road trip ends Saturday against the Portland Fire (11-19).
