Demarcus Robinson seemingly won’t be starting the season with the San Francisco 49ers.

The wide receiver has been suspended for three games due to violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy, head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed Wednesday during an appearance on KNBR.

When asked to confirm whether or not Robinson had been suspended to start the year, the 49ers bench boss said “Yes, you can always appeal it, so we’ll hope for the best on that, but (three weeks) is what we’re planning for.”

The 30-year-old was arrested in November for suspicion of driving under the influence while still a member of the Los Angeles Rams.

California Highway Patrol officers observed a white Dodge sedan driving over 100 m.p.h. on the 101 freeway in the western San Fernando Valley, a few miles from the Rams’ training complex in Woodland Hills.

The driver, who identified himself as Robinson, had “objective signs and symptoms of alcohol impairment,” the CHP said in a statement released to The Associated Press.

A three-game suspension is the NFL’s standard discipline for a first-time DUI offence. Meanwhile, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the San Francisco WR is already going through the appeals process.

Robinson was originally drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the fourth round of the 2016 draft. He’s logged 147 games through nine years in the NFL, posting totals of 250 receptions, 3013 yards and 27 touchdowns.

In 2024 with the Rams, Robinson played all 17 games as he caught 31 passes for 505 yards and seven touchdowns.

He signed a two-year, $8 million deal with the 49ers this off-season.
