Brampton residents will soon have another opportunity to speak directly with city officials and community partners about neighbourhood safety concerns.

The Brampton Community Safety Advisory Committee (BCSAC) will hold its next community meeting on Thursday, Aug. 20 at 7 p.m. at Cassie Campbell Community Centre, located at 1050 Sandalwood Parkway.

The meeting is part of the committee’s effort to bring safety conversations directly into Brampton neighbourhoods, giving residents a chance to raise concerns and ask questions outside of the traditional City Hall setting.

The BCSAC was created as a citizen-based advisory committee during the 2017 term of council. It includes members of council, community representatives and local agencies, with support from the city’s Community Safety and Well-Being Office.

Residents do not need to register to attend the meeting. Those wishing to make a formal delegation can submit a request form at least 48 hours in advance. There will also be an opportunity for residents to ask questions following presentations.

The upcoming meeting follows a similar community safety discussion held in April at Riverstone Community Centre.

Residents have raised concerns about a range of issues, including auto theft, violence, property crime, public safety at large events and the need for more police resources.

Earlier this year, the City of Brampton held a telephone town hall focused on community safety with Peel Regional Police. More than 7,800 households participated, with residents hearing updates from police officials and answering questions about possible crime-fighting measures.

The discussion included proposals such as expanding the use of high-definition security cameras, increasing police staffing and allowing police to use drones during active criminal investigations.

The Aug. 20 BCSAC meeting is open to the public and residents are encouraged to attend and share their concerns about safety in their communities.
