Commuters using Brampton’s downtown transit hub are getting some relief as the North Platform at the Brampton Transit Terminal has officially reopened following weeks of construction-related disruptions.

Effective today (Aug. 6), Brampton Transit says the platform has returned to service, allowing several bus routes to resume their regular boarding locations after being temporarily relocated during construction.

The reopening follows work on an underground parking facility that forced the closure of the terminal’s north bus loop, requiring thousands of riders to board buses from temporary stops along nearby streets.

The following Brampton Transit routes have now returned to the North Platform:

561 Züm Queen West
1/1A Queen
52 McMurchy

GO Transit routes 31, 33 and 37 have also returned to the North Platform at the terminal.

Route 52 McMurchy has resumed its regular routing. However, Brampton Transit notes that temporary detours remain in place for Routes 561 Züm Queen West and 1/1A Queen due to ongoing construction on Queen Street.

While the terminal’s North Platform has reopened, some GO Transit bus operations remain temporarily adjusted.

GO says buses will continue using temporary street-level stops until further notice. Eastbound Routes 31 and 33 continue to stop on the west side of Main Street North, while westbound service boards passengers on the east side of Main Street North near Church Street East. Route 37 also continues to use temporary stops on Main Street.

The reopening marks the end of one of the more disruptive phases of construction at the Brampton Innovation District GO Station.

Since July, commuters have faced a series of changes as Metrolinx carried out improvements at the downtown transit hub. In addition to the temporary closure of the North Platform, approximately 240 parking spaces and part of the passenger pick-up and drop-off area were closed for concrete repairs, repaving and other upgrades.

Parking work at the station is expected to continue through August.

Passengers should also note that the station’s elevators remain unavailable daily between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. Customers requiring accessible access to the train platforms during those overnight hours can contact GO Transit for assistance.
