A woman is fighting for her life after being struck by a vehicle whose driver fled the scene on a Highway 410 off-ramp in Brampton early Thursday morning.
Ontario Provincial Police say the collision happened at approximately 12:20 a.m. on the northbound Highway 410 off-ramp to Steeles Avenue.
Emergency crews responded after reports that a pedestrian had been hit while in the live traffic lanes. The woman was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Investigators say the driver did not stop after the collision and are now asking for the public’s help in identifying both the vehicle and the person behind the wheel.
Police believe the suspect vehicle is a Jeep Cherokee that is likely missing part of its front bumper grille and has damage to the hood as a result of the collision.
Vehicle debris recovered at the scene has helped investigators narrow down the make and model of the SUV.
The victim has not yet been identified.
“We need your assistance,” OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said. “We are in the process of identifying this female.”
The Highway 410 northbound off-ramp to Steeles Avenue remained closed for several hours while officers examined the scene before reopening at approximately 4 a.m.
The investigation remains ongoing.
