TORONTO — Russia’s Alina Korneeva upset 13th-seeded American Iva Jovic 6-3, 6-4 in third-round play Friday at the National Bank Open women’s tennis tournament.
Korneeva, the world No. 89, needed one hour 22 minutes to complete the victory.
Leylah Fernandez, the No. 30 seed from Laval, Que., was scheduled to play fifth-seeded Russian Mirra Andreeva on centre court at Sobeys Stadium later in the day.
Fernandez is the last Canadian remaining in the singles draw at the WTA 1000 hardcourt event.
