David Foster brings star-studded concert home to Victoria

David Foster returned to his hometown Saturday night for a free, star-studded concert that transformed Victoria’s Inner Harbour into an outdoor celebration of music, community and four decades of the David Foster Foundation.
Thousands of people gathered around the harbour and the B.C. legislature grounds for the David Foster & Friends 40th Anniversary Concert, with spectators filling viewing areas and watching from boats and paddleboards on the water.
The evening, which began around 7:30 p.m., featured performances from a lineup of artists, with Foster taking the stage throughout the night.
The concert was the finale of a weekend celebrating the 40th anniversary of the David Foster Foundation, which Foster founded in Victoria in 1986 to support Canadian families whose children require life-saving organ transplants.
Celebrity co-hosts Erich Bergen and Melissa Peterman opened the evening, welcoming the crowd and reflecting on the foundation’s history in Victoria.
“Something that started right here has grown into an organization that has changed the lives of families all across Canada,” Bergen told the crowd.
The hosts also announced that the foundation had raised $14.5 million at its anniversary gala the night before.
Foster later took the stage and said he was happy to be back in his hometown.“It’s so good to be back home in my hometown, Victoria, British Columbia,” he told the crowd.
Throughout the evening, the harbour remained packed as people watched the performances from the shoreline and the water.
The Canadian Forces Snowbirds also made an appearance as part of the evening’s festivities, adding an aerial element to the celebration.
For Foster, the concert was more than simply another performance.
Near the end of the evening, he described his portion of the show as a ‘love letter to Victoria’ before continuing to perform for the hometown crowd.
The night ended with fireworks over the Inner Harbour, giving the audience a final spectacle after an evening filled with music and performances.
