Outdoor movie magic meets clean energy in Revelstoke

Enjoy a free Aug. 21 screening at Queen Elizabeth Park
There’s something special about watching a movie under the stars – and this summer, Revelstoke residents can enjoy that experience in a whole new way.
On Aug. 21, Queen Elizabeth Park will transform into an open-air theatre for a free screening presented by Fresh Air Cinema and BC Hydro Power Smart
But this isn’t just another outdoor movie night. The event will showcase how clean energy solutions can help create memorable community experiences while reducing environmental impact.
Traditionally, outdoor movies rely on gas-powered generators, sound systems and equipment. However, this event takes a different approach, replacing those generators with new technology that delivers clean electricity for a quieter, greener experience.
“For us, outdoor movies have always been about bringing communities together,” says Jason Bashnick, Managing Director of Fresh Air Cinema.
“When you can combine that with innovative clean-energy solutions, it creates an event that’s not only fun for families but also demonstrates what the future of community events can look like.”
A new way to power outdoor entertainment
Through a partnership with BC Hydro, the generator-free setup ensures movie-goers can enjoy the evening without the noise, fumes and emissions often associated with traditional event power sources.
For BC Hydro, the event is an opportunity to showcase how clean energy can support everyday activities in practical and engaging ways.
“What excites us most is the combination of community, connection and innovation. But it’s also about showing what’s possible,” says Brandon Young, Director for Power Smart, BC Hydro.
“We look forward to bringing more clean‑powered events to communities across the province and to continue building awareness of the work we’re doing beyond supplying electricity.”
Family fun under the stars
While sustainability is an important part of the event, the focus remains on creating a fun summer evening. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets, settle in on the grass and enjoy a family-friendly evening.
Doors open at 6 p.m., with the movie starting just after sunset at 8:15 p.m. Admission is free and concessions will also be available on site along with free giveaways throughout the evening.
“We’re so excited to welcome everyone to this event,” Bashnick says. “These shared experiences are what outdoor movies are all about.”
